All You Need to Know When Doing IPL at Home | JOVS Beauty Venus II Review

What's more viral than doing IPL at home! I bet you sometimes see IPL machine advertisements on Instagram and anyone who loves to shave their hair must have heard about IPL. It's like a magic wand for getting rid of unwanted hair. Here's the scoop.

What is IPL?

Intense Pulsed Light technology or IPL is a nifty technology that uses pulses of light to zap away hair follicles. It's kind of like a mini laser, but less intense. The light energy gets absorbed by the hair's pigment (the stuff that gives your hair its color), and that energy turns into heat. This heat damages the hair follicle, which slows down or stops hair growth altogether.

Why I prefer to do it at home:

  • Convenience: No more scheduling appointments or waiting at the salon. You can do it whenever it suits you, even in your PJs.
  • Cost-effective: IPL devices might seem a bit pricey at first, but think about the money you'll save in the long run. No more spending on razors, waxing, or salon visits.
  • Privacy: Some of us (including me) are just more comfortable doing hair removal in the privacy of our own homes. I just don't feel comfortable showing my armpits or bikini part to anyone.

How I do IPL at home:

  1. Choose the right device for your needs. There are plenty of IPL devices out there, so do your research. For me, I always look for one with good reviews and check if the reviews are genuine or not. I am super curious to try JOVS Beauty Venus II after reading and watching reels about that particular machine. I have a JOVS discount code for you, please keep reading 😉

  2. Prep the skin. Shave the area you want to treat beforehand. You want the light to hit the hair follicle directly, so no hairs above the skin's surface. JOVS provided a shaver inside the package.

  3. If you're new to IPL, start with a low-intensity setting. You can always increase it as you get more comfortable. My first experience with IPL was 8 years ago but since I moved to Australia and Canada, I have never been to a salon anymore since they are pretty expensive here. So to have this JOVS Beauty IPL machine makes me so happy!

  4. Always wear the included safety goggles to protect your eyes from the bright light. This is a must! There are some other rules inside the booklet as well, it is best to follow them correctly for your safety.

  5. IPL works best with a series of treatments and a lot of patience -- usually spaced a few weeks apart, for months (even years). Never expect that this machine will remove your hair in one go. It's not a one-and-done deal, but the outcomes are worth it! What motivates me to continue doing IPL at home is the results I see progressively. The first sign was: my hair started to grow wayyy longer and thinner.

  6. Don't forget to moisturize. After each session, moisturize your skin to keep it soft and happy. I am using aloe vera gel, it feels so relaxing for the skin. You can find aloe vera gel everywhere, my preference is Korean brands.

  • Right from the get-go, the packaging exudes premium quality, and everything you need is neatly nestled inside the box. It's a fantastic first impression! You can tilt the head to 330 degrees, making it very flexible and easy to use.

  • JOVS Venus II comes with 6 modes for more precise hair removal: face, arms, underarms, legs, and bikini line. The last mode is Skin Rejuvenation, where you can treat your skin to reduce wrinkles and fine lines! What a package, hey!

  • One thing I absolutely adore is the instant ice-cooling effect!
ICE Cooling Head: Made from full-screen ultra-thin sapphire, constant temperature of 5°C to ensure treatments are painless.
I've never experienced such a comfortable IPL treatment before, thanks to this cooling sensation. No pain whatsoever. I think that is what makes JOVS machines different from other home IPL brands.

Currently, I use setting number 2 for my armpits.

After using JOVS for two more sessions over the course of two months, I'm starting to notice some remarkable changes. In my armpits, while there's still some hair growth, it's significantly slower and thinner than before. It's like a throwback to my good old days with thinner armpit hair. And remember, the more you notice reduced hair growth, the longer you can wait between sessions.

Currently, I use setting number 3 for my legs.

Now, let's talk about my legs. The hair there used to be stubborn and thick. After two months with JOVS, it's still growing, but it's much thinner. Before IPL, I'd see regrowth after just four days post-shave. Now, it takes a whole week, and it's more like baby hair. I couldn't be happier! 🤍

Watch my reels to see the progress and how to use the machine.

In conclusion: A few things to keep in mind...

1. IPL will save you much time and money in the long run but you need to have a huge amount of patience. IPL isn't a quick fix. It takes a few sessions to see results, and you might still need touch-ups. If you cannot be consistent and patient, IPL at home is not for you. Also please remember that IPL works best on lighter skin tones with darker hair. It's less effective on very light or very dark skin.

2. Research the IPL machine by the reviews and choose one that fits your needs. If you want to save time, go with my choice: JOVS Beauty Venus II. Always follow the instructions properly. The brand has many awards, FDA-approved and you can read/watch tons of good reviews online. I'm the kind of girl who prefers to follow the review clout lol. 😂

3. Every person has their own pain tolerance. Some people describe the sensation as a little zap or snap on the skin. But with the JOVS ice-cooling effect, I feel no pain at all...👍👍

What do you think of this machine? I really recommend JOVS for anyone who likes convenience + something that really works! You can use code KR40V for $40 OFF with no expiry date!! What a treat! :D

Let me know what you think!
