Dry and Cracking Skin Remedy | united & free Multi Purpose Balm Review

I'm excited to introduce you to another Canadian skincare brand that has been an aid for my body these past months. Did I mention 'body'? You read it right, this blue-bottled balm is not only for your face.

I've been using united & free Multi-Purpose balm pretty much all around, from lips to nails. During wintertime, my skin gets crankier and I can feel the moisture leaving my body every time I walked out of the warm shower. Let's dive into all the brand claims vs my experience!

the smartest and most sustainable packaging!

Ok, let's start with the packaging. Can we take a moment to appreciate how smart and thoughtful the packaging is? This box is literally a mix between sustainability, aesthetics, and function. The outer packaging is made with sugarcane bagasse, while the jar is made from glass and a 50% PCR lid. Read more about their sustainability plan here.

First Impression

The texture is balmy for sure, melts when touched by the warmth of the skin. Made from jojoba + vegan squalane + olive oil + other oils from Mother Nature, it is very comforting to touch and spread. It does smell neutral, without any fragrance added, you can smell the goodness right away. You can use this balm to tame dry frizzy hair, chapped skin, or reduce the appearance of stretch marks. A little goes a long way, I feel like the price is worth the amount of the product.

I use united and free balm mostly for my lips and arms, areas where I need it the most!

Recently I noticed some tiny bumps all over my arms, they are not pimples or warts. Not itchy but feel very weird and annoying to touch, like some patches of dry blackheads but they are not any of them. Consulted to a dermatologist and she said it could be keratosis pilaris, a common condition and it's not dangerous at all.

I applied this balm every night after a shower while giving a little massage. Surprisingly, this balm acts as an exfoliator! This might sound gross but those tiny little bumps were smoothly falling off as I massaged my skin with this balm. Just when I feel it was enough, I applied another layer to ensure my skin is moisturized. After several weeks, though the bumps are still here, my arms feel waaaay better without the feeling of lacking hydration.

Just like a normal lip balm, this balm will save you from chapped lips day. It does moisturize and keep my lips smooth and healthy but one thing I notice, this balm is not absorbed into your lips like other balm does. So if I applied in the morning, the balm will still be there by the afternoon. Sometimes it makes me feel a bit uncomfortable but my lips are protected for longer without the need to reapply! Plus it creates a beautiful glossy look so you might want to replace your sticky lipgloss with this balm instead :D

I am not a regular nail salon visitor since I do pottery and hand-painting artwork. My cuticles are dry as f*ck and to be honest I never really pay attention to my nails. When they get super dry, they will give me a hard time by being painful. United and free balm really helps me at those times. With just a little self-love massage to the nails, I can avoid more problems.

areas where you can apply the balm

Since I don't really have coarse hair (or beard thankfully), I've never put on the balm there. I do have some stretch marks but this area is not my concern. However, you can apply this balm literally everywhere you need more love just like I did to my arms.
